The 21st Lecture of "Interdisciplinary Salon of Law" of the China Institute for Socio-Legal Studies was successfully held.

On the afternoon of 21st December, the 21st Lecture of "Interdisciplinary Salon of Law" hosted by the China Institute for Socio-Legal Studies of Shanghai Jiao Tong University was successfully held in Room 206, North 4th Building, Xuhui Campus. The theme of this salon is "The Globalization of Chinese Law as a Persuasive Process", and Samuli Seppänen, Associate Professor of the Faculty of Law of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, was the keynote speaker. Thomas Coendet, Director of the International Cooperation Department of the China Institute for Socio-Legal Studies at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Associate Professor of the KoGuan School of Law (Shanghai Oriental Scholars Distinguished Professor), served as the moderator and the commentator. More than twenty teachers and students from inside and outside the university attended the salon.

Associate Professor Thomas Coendet firstly welcomed the visit of Associate Professor Samuli Seppänen. He introduced the academic background, main research areas and representative works of Associate Professor Samuli Seppänen, especially his unique insights and perspectives on the development of Chinese law, and expressed a great anticipation for Associate Professor Samuli Seppänen's wonderful lecture.

Associate Professor Samuli Seppänen introduced the background to the study of "Globalisation of Chinese Law", using two of his past articles as a starting point. He pointed out that, unlike the previous "North to South" (namely from developed to developing countries) route of legal dissemination, China has developed an alternative "South to South" (namely from developing to developing countries) route of legal dissemination, which has profoundly changed the way legal globalization operates. On this basis, Associate Professor Samuli Seppänen introduced the central issue of the lecture - the relationship between legal globalization and persuasion, or more precisely, between the spread of Chinese law and Chinese legal thought patterns. He introduced the Rhetorical Theory to explain this issue, and explained the dissemination process of Chinese law through the "ceremonial genre", "deliberative genre", and the "judicial genre". Finally, in the perspective of comparative law, Associate Professor Samuli Seppänen commented on the global dissemination of Chinese law in specific practical contexts.

During the Question & Answer session, Associate Professor Thomas Coendet commented on Associate Professor Samuli Seppänen's study and pointed out that the international dissemination of Chinese law based on the inheritance of foreign law had actually constructed a new type of triangular relationship of "North-South-South", which might provide a new perspective for describing the globalization of Chinese law. He further pointed out that in the future, the rhetoric of "types of justice" would be crucial to the international dissemination of Chinese law. Other students and faculty members asked questions about the motives, influencing factors and empirical data of the globalization of Chinese law, to which Associate Professor Samuli Seppänen responded in detail, taking into account his own practical experience and relevant literature.

After the end of the salon, the participants took a group photo together. The salon came to an end in a pleasant and warm atmosphere.
